On Iran’s Protest

When I saw several pictures on Iran’s on-going protests over their presidential elections, a wave of nostalgia swept over me.

Forcing back the tears, I felt a strong overwhelming rush of emotions. Looking at the pictures, I recall the times that I was on the street. I remember the faces of agitated comrades chanting political slogans on the street amidst the rain, heat, and the dangers that lurks behind every political activist. The pictures remind of People Power 1 and 2, and Philippine’s dekada 70.

Looking at the pictures of Iran made me think of the comrades who died fighting for what they believe was right. And I guess, those Iranians who died bloody on the streets of Tehran somehow knew what they were fighting for.

Is a vote worth dying for? Yes. One vote could change the world. People nowadays are not passive but are just waiting for something huge to catapult them into action.

As I am writing this, I remember a song by “Disturbed” and it’s called “10,000 Fists in the Air”.
One more goddamn day when I know what I want
And my want will be considered tonight, considered tonight
Just another day when all that I want
Will mark me as a sinner tonight, I’m a sinner tonight, yeah

[Chorus]
People can no longer cover their eyes
If this disturbs you then walk away
You will remember the night you were struck by the sight of
Ten Thousand fists in the air

Power un-restrained dead on the mark
Is what we will deliver tonight, deliver tonight
Pleasure fused with pain this triumph of the soul
will make you shiver tonight, will make you shiver tonight, yeah

[Chorus]

We are the ones that will open your mind
Leave the weak and the haunted behind [4x]

[Chorus]

Ten Thousand fists in the air
Ten Thousand fists in the air
