Xam Turns Two

Yesterday was my youngest daughter’s birthday. Xamantha Grace turned two years old yesterday and I am so proud of her.

I went to my parents’ house in Danao City yesterday after I got permission from my boss to take off five hours of work from my regular ten hours schedule.

I remember talking to Xam that morning. She was really talkative on the phone. Like Carhrihl and Josef, Xam is witty and charming. She has her own way of charming people and there’s that sense of independence in her spirit that sometimes scares me.

Yes, like her older sister Carhrihl, Xam is independent and yes, stubborn too. My daughters have this strong sense of doing things their way. And it scares me because I can see that they’re becoming like me. I never realized how scary it is to have kids who love to do things their way until I had them. It scares me because I don’t want to feel like they don’t need me.

Anyway, we just had a very simple family gathering at my parents’ house. Too bad Carhrihl and Josef were not there to celebrate Xam’s birthday. I felt it was inconvenient for them to travel with me yesterday. I was not planning to sleep at my parents’ house. I need to go back to the city yesterday night. And the weather was gloomy and I feared rain. Going to my parents’ house means riding a motorcycle from Danao City to the mountain barangay where my parents live. It was just inconvenient for the kids.

Xam enjoyed her cake a lot. I bought her a heart-shaped strawberry-flavored pink cake from Goldilocks. I wanted to get her a Red Ribbon cake but Danao City has only one good bakeshop and that is Goldilocks.

Xam had a hard time blowing out the candle. She looked so cute when she huffed and puffed at the candles. We were all laughing at her. To help out Xam, my mom blew the candles for her.

We allowed Xam to mutilate her cake. Hahaha! She was so happy when she started scraping the icing on the cake with her little fingers. She gobbled on the little flower icings that decorated her cake. When the cake lost all its beauty, and when Xam looked satisfied, that was when we decided to eat the cake. My daughter was a mess last night. She had icing on her face and her small hands were covered with it. She smelled like strawberries.
